Scope and Sequence: An Overview of Concepts and Themes
The science curriculum in 7th grade explores various concepts in the life science strand. Four major units will constitute the student’s coursework.
Unit 1: Cells and HeredityMajor themes of this unit are: Cells: The Building Blocks of Life, Cell Processes and Energy, Genetics: The Science of Heredity, and Modern Genetics
Unit 2: From Bacteria to PlantsMajor themes of this unit are: Bacteria and Viruses, Protists and Fungi, Introduction to Plants, See Plants
Unit 3: AnimalsMajor themes of this unit are: Sponges, Cnidarians, and Worms, Mollusks, Arthropods, and Echinoderms, Fishes, Amphibians and Reptiles, Birds and Mammals, and Animal Behavior.
Unit 4: Human Biology and HeathMajor themes of this unit are: Bones, Muscles, and Skin, Food and Digestion, Circulation, Respiration and Excretion, Fighting Disease, The Nervous System, and The Endocrine System and Reproduction.
